Op-Ed

Reflection on my op-ed.

For the final project in the class, I was asked to write an op-ed on a similar or identical topic as what I had written about for the rhetorical analysis. This project was very difficult for me as it was a noticeable departure from the writing style I was used to. For my outline and first draft, I had written this essay with the idea of using a traditional 5 paragraph essay style, but I quickly realized that was not the best way to approach this project. Well, not quickly. I only realized my mistake after receiving feedback from my peers on my project and reading the work of my peers during class workshops. I realized that there was a much looser style to this project and that it was completely acceptable/correct to give your own opinion (which probably should have been more obvious given that it’s an op-ed). I learned a lot during this project and my final draft had a much different feel as compared to my first draft which I think is clear when you read and compare the two.
